A devastating incident occurred on Saturday at a Christmas charity event in Okija, Anambra State, where over 20 women lost their lives and many more were seriously injured.
The event, organized by the ObiJackson Foundation, was intended to provide rice donations to the less privileged.
Eyewitnesses say that a massive crowd surged towards the venue, eager to receive the Yuletide giveaway. Unfortunately, the crowd became uncontrollable, leading to a stampede that resulted in the tragic loss of life.
The event, which is held annually, drew a large attendance due to the current economic challenges. However, the joyful atmosphere quickly turned to chaos as the stampede broke out, causing widespread panic and loss of life.
The ObiJackson Foundation, founded by Obi Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Nestoil, has been hosting this charity event to support the less fortunate.
