Although the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris officially commence this Friday, the event is already seeing action off the field. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered its first arbitration procedure concerning representation issues.
Jamaican hammer thrower Ms. Nayoka Clunis, who qualified and was selected to represent her country, has taken the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to CAS. Despite her qualification, the JAAA did not submit her name to World Athletics (WA) for participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Ms. Clunis is now seeking a ruling from the CAS Ad hoc Division to have her included in the hammer throw competition at the Olympics. A panel of arbitrators has been appointed to decide on the matter, including Dr. Annabelle Bennett from Australia as President, Ms. Carine Dupeyron from France, and Ms. Kristen Thorsness from the U.S.
The hearing is set for Saturday, with a decision expected on Sunday.
The 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11 .
