Patrick Ngwaogu, Chairman and Sponsor of the Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament, announced that the 2025 Unity Preseason Tournament will be hosted in Nasarawa State. In an interview with Pathway News in Abuja on Tuesday, Ngwaogu revealed that the event will take place at the Lafia Township Stadium.
He confirmed that the state government has approved their request to host next year’s tournament. The annual tournament serves as a preparatory event for football clubs gearing up for the new season.
Ngwaogu emphasized that the tournament is designed to strengthen teams within the northern conference, particularly for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). He noted that participating teams could greatly benefit from the experience, improving their performance in the upcoming season.

He explained, “Most of the clubs use the preseason tournament to make adjustments and scout for players who can enhance their team’s performance.”
Ngwaogu also mentioned that six players from junior clubs in this year’s tournament are set to be signed by NPFL clubs, including two from Likeminds Football Club of Gwagwalada and four from 2K19 Football Club of Abuja.
Pathway News reports that the 2024 Preseason Tournament concluded with Likeminds Football Club of Gwagwalada emerging as champions, defeating Niger Tornadoes of Minna 1-0. The winning goal was scored by Lucky Chidum Ojukwu in the 72nd minute, witnessed by a modest crowd of guests and spectators. Eleven teams, including Nasarawa United and Plateau United, participated in this year’s tournament, which was held at the Area 3 football stadium from August 12 to 18.
