In a disturbing incident, a 27-year-old man identified as Chinalu Ogbonna stands accused of murdering his father, Maduka Ogbonna, 57, and reportedly attempting to extract his eyes for ritualistic purposes.
According to a statement from Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Abia Command, the tragic event unfolded on Umueze Road, opposite Junior Girls Secondary School, Amuzukwu, Ibeku, located in the Umuahia North Local Government Area.
Chinaka revealed that at approximately 8:00 am on Tuesday, the police at CPS Umuahia received a report regarding a homicide involving Maduka Ogbonna, a 57-year-old man, purportedly murdered by his own son.
Upon arrival at the scene, detectives from CPS Umuahia discovered the lifeless body of the victim, with his left eye removed.
The authorities promptly apprehended the suspect, Chinalu Ogbonna, who resided with his father, in connection with the heinous crime.
Subsequent investigations uncovered that the suspect allegedly strangled his father to death with the intention of utilizing his left eye for occult rituals.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the morgue for further examination through an autopsy procedure.
The statement emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and the perpetrator will face charges in court as the legal process unfolds.
