Hundreds of protesters have set a portion of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) office on fire along State Road in Kano State. The newly constructed NCC office, which was soon to be commissioned, was looted and torched by the demonstrators.
In a separate but related incident, protesters also vandalized the official vehicle of Arewa Radio. Earlier in the day, the rear glass of the branded car was shattered by angry protesters outside the Government House.
The unrest escalated when some protesters began damaging government property near the Government House, leading to a police response. Police officers deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd, who retaliated by throwing stones at passing vehicles.
A news team from Arewa Radio, consisting of two reporters and a driver, narrowly escaped harm during the attack. As the protests continue, business activities in many parts of Kano have ground to a halt, with residents remaining indoors and shops that initially opened quickly closing down.
