The Nsit Ubium chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, as a National Delegate. In a broader reorganization, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) were also included among the 18 new executives elected across 31 local government areas for a four-year term.
In preparation for the PDP’s upcoming National Convention, the party elected one National Delegate in each local government council. This brought the total to 31 National Delegates, with each local government also electing one person living with disabilities (PLWD), resulting in 31 PLWDs in the grassroots party executive across the state.
According to a statement by Mr. Borono Bassey, Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, Governor Umo Eno was among the prominent party members elected as National Delegates during the Local Government Congress held at the PDP chapter headquarters in Nsit Ubium. The governor, in a goodwill message delivered by party elders and stakeholders across various local government areas, praised the unity and resolve of party leaders, which have been the defining traits of the PDP in the state.
Bassey noted that Governor Eno urged the newly elected officers to work diligently to ensure the party’s continued success in future elections. The state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Aniekan Akpan, reminded stakeholders and returning officers of the need to elect officials committed to the sacrifices required to strengthen the party and attract more supporters in Akwa Ibom.
Akpan emphasized that the PDP remains the most beloved and preferred political party in the state, and the new officers should maintain an altruistic approach that keeps the party admired and chosen during elections.
The Congress, held across all local government areas, was reported to be peaceful, with the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, attributing the success to the transparency and internal democracy within the party.
