The National Assembly rerun election tribunal in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has declared Hon. Dennis Nnamdi Agbo of the Labour Party as the rightful winner of the House of Representatives seat for Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Enugu State.
Agbo, who initially won the February 25, 2023 election with a significant margin, was ousted by the Appeal Court in November 2023. The court’s decision came after an appeal by Oby Aji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who contested the election based on the omission of the APC logo on result sheets from 165 of the 532 polling units.
The Appeal Court ordered a rerun in the affected units, which was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 3, 2024. However, the rerun was marred by significant irregularities, leading to the declaration of PDP candidate Hon. Simon Atigwe as the winner, despite protests and evidence provided by the Labour Party.

The Labour Party and Agbo challenged this result in court. The three-member Tribunal, chaired by Hon. Justice H. N. Kunaza, upheld Agbo’s petition, declaring him the true winner of the election and ordering INEC to issue him a certificate of return.
Reacting to the ruling, Hon. Agbo described the process as a challenging journey that ultimately ended with a divine triumph. He acknowledged the disruption caused to his constituents and pledged to work diligently to make up for lost time and ensure effective representation.
