The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to avoid interfering with the tenure of union leaders. Mr. Benson Upah, NLC’s Head of Information, voiced this concern during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
Upah alleged that the government plans to impose a two-year term limit on labour leaders, which he argued would violate Labour Law and International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions. He called for an end to what he described as a “hybrid war” against the Congress.
Upah suggested that if a two-year term is deemed necessary, it should apply uniformly, including to the presidency and other top public offices. He also criticized the administration for meddling in the Labour Party’s affairs and efforts to destabilize opposition parties.
