The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has demobilized 54 individuals who were illegally mobilized for youth service by the University of Calabar. Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, Director-General of NYSC, announced this in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa.
Ahmed emphasized that this action aligns with the NYSC’s ongoing efforts to prevent unqualified graduates from obtaining the NYSC certificate of national service. He also mentioned that the demobilized individuals would face prosecution.

Additionally, 19 other candidates who initially registered online for mobilization have been barred from service, and the NYSC withheld four certificates of national service from other culprits. Ahmed highlighted that this follows the recent invalidation of 101 certificates by the NYSC, bringing the total number of voided certificates to 178.
The Director-General praised the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, for her honesty in alerting the NYSC about the inclusion of unqualified graduates on the institution’s mobilization list. Ahmed noted that the Vice-Chancellor discovered discrepancies in the list and reported them, leading to the invalidation of the affected certificates.
Ahmed reiterated the NYSC’s commitment to thoroughly sanitizing its mobilization process and strengthening collaboration with Heads of Corps Producing Institutions and other relevant stakeholders to prevent such incidents. He stressed that any failures in the mobilization process reflect poorly on the integrity of the institution’s management and called on employers to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates presented for job placements.
