The Sokoto Youth Progressive Movement (SYPM) has issued a strong condemnation of the display of foreign flags and external interference observed during recent peaceful protests across Nigeria.
In a statement released in Sokoto on Saturday, Mustapha Buda, SYPM Coordinator, denounced these actions as detrimental to Nigeria’s sovereignty and democratic rights. Buda emphasized that the presence of foreign flags during the protests validated the group’s concerns about external involvement.
He stated, “In any thriving democracy, the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental pillar that empowers citizens to voice their concerns and hold their leaders accountable. For Nigerians, this right is enshrined in the constitution and reflects our commitment to democratic values and freedoms.”
Buda highlighted that peaceful protests are a crucial mechanism for societal progress, allowing citizens to address grievances and foster dialogue within a framework of respect and non-violence.
The SYPM called on the Nigerian government to urgently identify and prosecute the foreign individuals and organizations involved in these destabilizing activities. They stressed the importance of holding foreign agents accountable and formally addressing the issue with the countries whose nationals were involved in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
“It is essential to send a clear message to the international community that Nigeria will not tolerate foreign interference in its internal matters,” Buda demanded.
The SYPM reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability, asserting that the recent protests showcased the strength and unity of Nigerians. They urged all citizens and leaders to remain vigilant and united against any attempts to undermine national integrity.
The group concluded by emphasizing their dedication to a stable, secure, and self-determined Nigeria, free from external pressures and influences.
