World and Olympic pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis broke the world record on Sunday at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Silesia, Poland. Duplantis cleared an impressive 6.26 meters, surpassing the mark he set earlier this month while defending his Olympic title at the Paris Games. This achievement marks his 10th world record.
The record-breaking jump came shortly after Jakob Ingebrigtsen made history with his 3000-meter run at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial venue. Duplantis secured his victory with a 6.00-meter vault on his third attempt, then immediately attempted the world record height, successfully clearing it on his second try amid a wave of excitement.
While the record is subject to the usual ratification process by World Athletics, the competition was filled with joy as Olympic silver and bronze medallists, Sam Kendricks of the U.S. and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, both cleared 6.00 meters. For Kendricks, it was a season’s best, while Karalis set a new national record.
