On World Mental Health Day 2024, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, highlighted the critical need to prioritise mental health in the workplace. In a statement she personally signed, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that this year’s theme, “It’s Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace,” resonates with many individuals experiencing dissatisfaction at work.
She pointed out that suppressed emotions can escalate into severe mental health challenges. “If stigma were eliminated, more people would openly share their struggles, leading to earlier diagnoses and better recovery outcomes,” she stated.
The First Lady urged society to create a culture of love and support, stressing that collective efforts could significantly reduce mental health issues. She called for a united commitment to raising awareness and encouraging people to seek help early. “Be your brother’s keeper for a safer society,” she concluded, underscoring the importance of community in addressing mental health challenges.
World Mental Health Day 2024 is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and promoting mental well-being, reminding individuals and communities of the importance of mental health as part of overall health.
