FCT-IRS Seeks Stronger Partnership with NFIU to Boost Tax Compliance in the FCT
The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has called for a strengthened partnership with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to improve tax compliance and revenue collection within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango, made this appeal during a visit to NFIU’s Chief Executive Officer, Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar, on Tuesday in Abuja. Ango highlighted the critical role NFIU plays as a strategic stakeholder of the FCT-IRS and emphasized the importance of reinforcing the existing collaboration for mutual benefit.
According to Ango, the visit was part of FCT-IRS’s efforts to engage key stakeholders and seek support for enhancing revenue collection and tax administration in the FCT. He acknowledged the current partnership between the two organizations but noted that further cooperation could yield even better results.
“Sharing ideas, data, and information between FCT-IRS and NFIU will significantly improve operations and lead to better outcomes,” Ango stated.
In response, NFIU Chief Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar expressed confidence in Ango’s leadership and his ability to advance the FCT-IRS. She reiterated NFIU’s commitment to collaborating with the FCT-IRS and emphasized the importance of tackling tax crimes like evasion, which deprive the government of necessary resources for development projects.
Abubakar praised the FCT-IRS as one of NFIU’s most effective partners, noting that their model of collaboration has now extended to about 24 other state revenue services, contributing to domestic revenue mobilization nationwide.
