President Bola Tinubu in a telephone call, has congratulated John Mahama on his victory in Ghana’s December 7 general election.
Mahama, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured a decisive win after Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conceded defeat, acknowledging the people’s desire for change.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Ghanaians for their commitment to democracy and praised Bawumia for his concession, which he said reinforced Ghana’s democratic values. He expressed hope that Mahama’s leadership would enhance stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Tinubu emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between Nigeria and Ghana, highlighting shared history and cultural connections.
He also thanked outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for his contributions to regional peace.
