The Hajiya Hadiza Foundation, a charitable non-governmental organisation based in Abuja, has catered to the needs of the less privileged in its end’of-year party in Abuja.
At the event, which took place at the Unity Fountain, the founder, Hajia Hadiza Umar, distributed food items, clothing materials and cash to widows, children, the aged, the needy and person’s living with disabilities.
The foundation, whose vision is to create a society where women are empowered, children educated, persons with disabilities given equal opportunity to thrive and reach their full potentials, has been in the forefront of championing humanitarian activities across the country.
Since establishment, the foundation has made significant contributions in empowering the less privileged, widows and orphans; as well as giv9nf scholarship to indigent students in tertiary institutions.
Speaking at the event, patron of the Foundation, Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf, thanked Hajia Hadiza for her unrelenting effort in putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged Nigerians.
Senator Yusuf revealed that as the Senate Committee chairman on Special Duties during the 9th assembly, the committee was instrumental to the creation of the Disability Commission.
He stated that Nigeria has about 35 million people living with disabilities and that taking care of people living with disabilities and other vulnerable persons should not be left in the hands of individuals alone.
According to him, such endeavour is a joint responsibility of the government and private individuals, adding: “As human beings, we should imbibe and cultivate the culture of being each others’ keeper.”
Senator Yusuf commended Hajia Hadiza for the selfless efforts of putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged and the physically challenged.
He praised and admired her passion, while prayinf that God will continue to bless her.
In her remark, Hajia Hadiza expressed joy and happiness at the turn out at the event.
She revealed that she lost her parents at a very tender age but had to face life squarely to make out the best out of it.
According to her, “I resolved to use the blessings from God to help the less privileged and to be the hope for the hopeless.”
Hajia Hadiza enjoined the less privileged to feel free to call her any time as her doors are open to them, while assuring the widows that she would always be there to support them as much as she can.
Fondly described as a blend of Margaret Thatcher and Mother Theresa’ of our time, Hajia Hadiza distributed cash gift, clothing materials, rice, cows meat to the over 100 widows and the less privileged.
The event featured prayers, goodwill messages from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, United Towns Agency for North South Agency (UTA-Nigeria) represented by the Country President, Ambassador Abigail Amalaha, other partners and Imams.
It also featured presentation of sward by different groups to Hajia Hadiza in appreciation of her kindness and humanitarian gestures.
