The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested 149 suspects for alleged offences of thuggery and related crimes in the state.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, revealed that 106 suspects were arrested for thuggery, while 43 others were apprehended for major crimes.
The targeted operation, led by the Commissioner, also resulted in the recovery of arms, dangerous weapons, large quantities of illicit drugs, motor vehicles, and motorcycles.
In the last 10 days, the police arrested 25 armed robbery suspects, three suspected kidnappers, three drug dealers, three suspected vehicle thieves, and eight suspected thieves.
During this period, the police recovered one pump-action rifle, two motor vehicles, eight tricycles, 12 motorcycles, and 58 knives, cutlasses, and pointed rods. Other items seized included 87 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 944 pieces of red sun rubber solutions, 30 pieces of Diazepam injections, and 26 sachets of Diazepam tablets.
The Commissioner announced that the Command has intensified patrols and deployed additional personnel to affected areas. They have increased collaboration with community leaders, youth groups, and other agencies to gather intelligence and enhance response capabilities.
