The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that 52 people lost their lives in 87 road crashes between May and June in the state.
FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Anthony Uga, shared these figures on Monday with news men in Ota, Ogun.
Uga also noted that 264 people sustained various degrees of injuries in the same crashes. He attributed most of the accidents to speeding, dangerous and reckless driving, and night-time travel, among other factors.
“The FRSC wants to appeal to motorists to drive with caution and reduce their speed to avoid unnecessary loss of life,” Uga said. “In addition, they should ensure that their wipers, brakes, and other parts of their vehicles are functional to prevent road crashes, especially during this rainy season.”
Uga also warned against one-way driving and wrongful overtaking, particularly at bends. He emphasized that the FRSC would continue its public enlightenment campaigns to educate the motoring public on the dangers of flouting traffic rules and regulations.
