A lawyer with the Abia State Ministry of Justice, Lucky Nonso Agu, was tragically killed by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday.
Agu, who was attached to the Aba office of the ministry, had traveled to Umuahia, the state capital, the previous day for official duties. He was seen off by a colleague who drove him to the motorpark, where he boarded a commercial vehicle back to Aba.
The circumstances surrounding his murder remain unclear, but sources indicate that Agu may have been followed by two unknown individuals to his residence, where he was subsequently shot.
Neither the police nor the Aba branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) have issued statements regarding his death. However, staff from the Aba office of the Justice Ministry and local lawyers have condemned the heinous act, remembering Agu as a friendly and well-regarded professional both in and out of the workplace.
