Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced the immediate suspension of the chieftaincy selection process in Orile-Owu, Ayedaade Local Government Area, due to escalating violence.
In a statement released Tuesday evening by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke urged for calm between the Orile-Owu and Araromi-Owu communities.
The violence has resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with homes and the palace in Araromi-Owu set on fire by the mob.
Governor Adeleke emphasized the need for peace and ordered the suspension of the contentious chieftaincy selection process. He has directed Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Ojo, to deploy security personnel to the affected areas to enforce law and order. Those found violating the law will be arrested and prosecuted.
The state government is committed to protecting the lives and properties of residents in both Orile-Owu and Araromi-Owu, and any actions threatening public order will not be tolerated. The Governor also expressed condolences to those who suffered losses and assured that a thorough investigation into the conflict will be conducted.
