The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the medical supply contracts awarded to 44 local governments in the state.
In a statement issued to the press, Abdullahi Abbas, Chairman of the APC in Kano, also requested the freezing of the accounts of local councils to prevent further mismanagement of their funds under the guise of joint projects.
Abbas criticized Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent admission of being unaware of the contract details, suggesting it indicates either a lack of control or leadership capacity on the governor’s part.
He dismissed the Governor’s directive to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the financial controversy, labeling it as ineffective. Abbas argued that Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, chairman of the commission, is partisan and thus lacks the impartiality needed to investigate complaints involving the governor’s family members.

Abbas also highlighted that this scandal is part of a broader pattern of financial mismanagement allegedly involving officials of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) government. He pointed out that there are unresolved financial allegations against government officials and appointees, including the diversion and repackaging of palliatives by a Cabinet Office appointee, the alleged sale of government properties at Radio Kano, missing funds at Abubakar Rimi Television, illegal sales of palliatives by the state Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, and a case of palliative diversion by a top official in the Governor’s office.
