The All Progressives Congress (APC) Integrity Group has strongly criticized Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s recent remarks referring to the Esan people of Edo State as “witches and wizards,” calling the comments derogatory.
Oshiomhole made the controversial statement while discussing the upcoming Edo State governorship election on a television program last week. His comments were directed at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, whom Oshiomhole claimed avoids sleeping in his community due to spiritual forces.
In response, the spokesperson of the APC Integrity Group, Emmanuel Odigie, issued a statement yesterday condemning Oshiomhole’s remarks, suggesting they reflect a deep-seated animosity towards the Esan people.
Odigie urged all well-meaning individuals to denounce Senator Oshiomhole’s statements and called on him to apologize to the Esan community worldwide. He also criticized Oshiomhole’s involvement in the campaign, noting that he is neither the candidate nor the campaign director.
“There are no shortcuts to the Edo State government house. Oshiomhole’s attempt to use the judiciary to disqualify the most credible candidate will not work. The good people of Edo State have resolved to vote for Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie of the PDP,” Odigie stated.
The group also reaffirmed its commitment to opposing hate speech and any inflammatory remarks that could incite disunity and disharmony among the people.
