The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has announced that he would abandon his presidential ambition if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to contest in the 2027 elections. Speaking during a Thursday meeting with a Non-Governmental Organisation that urged him to run, Mohammed confirmed his interest in the presidency but emphasized that he would defer to Jonathan due to his experience.
The governor expressed his support for Jonathan, stating, “As long as Jonathan is around, I will not present myself for leadership of this country unless he decides not to run. If we can persuade him to come forward, I will support him with my blood.”
Mohammed praised Jonathan’s previous leadership, noting his inclusive policies and initiatives to address unemployment and other issues. He also clarified that his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration was misunderstood and urged the president to address the issues raised to avoid losing to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in future elections.
