Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has opened up about being the target of blackmail and accusations of election-related ritual killings in the lead-up to the November 2023 Bayelsa governorship election.
Ewhrudjakpo made this revelation while addressing members of the Prosperity Youth Coalition (PYC) during a thanksgiving event, held at Perdis Hotel, Akenfa-Yenagoa, after a special service at the Refined Peoples Assembly. The event marked gratitude for God’s protection after some PYC members survived a severe motor accident during the election campaign period.
A statement from Mr. Doubara Atasi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor, recalled that five PYC members were involved in a motor accident while en route to Ekeremor to participate in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaigns last year.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo described the survival of the accident victims as a personal triumph, asserting that God vindicated him in the face of false accusations from political opponents. He revealed that following the accident, which occurred in his hometown, Ofoni Community in Sagbama Local Government Area, he was falsely accused of involvement in ritual killings.

“I’m happy today because we did not lose anyone in our camp. Even those whom the other camp claimed had died and were used for rituals by this ‘Ofoni man’ are all alive here with us. There were many stories about me because the accident happened at Ofoni. But God did not allow my enemies to triumph over me in that election. What they wished for us happened in their camp,” Ewhrudjakpo said.
Comrade Doubara Kumokou, Director General of the Prosperity Youth Coalition, also spoke at the event, stating that it was organized to honor God for the miraculous survival of the five members and to celebrate the first anniversary of the organization.
