The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has suspended its State Chairman, Sir John Ngbede, along with two other members of its State Working Committee for one month. The other officials suspended are State Secretary Joseph Nyam and State Organizing Secretary Moses Audu.
This decision was announced in a statement signed by the State PDP Publicity Secretary, Chief Bemgba Iortyom, and made available to the press in Makurdi on Monday. The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was decided at an extraordinary meeting of the State Working Committee on Saturday, August 3, 2024, attended by 9 out of the 13 members.
The suspended members have been accused of forging documents, impersonating the State Working Committee, instigating violence during the recently concluded ward congresses, and mismanaging party finances. They are required to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the party within the period of their suspension to address the charges against them.
The State Deputy Chairman, Isaac Mffo, has been appointed as the acting State Chairman of the PDP in Benue State.
In a related development, the Benue PDP has officially communicated a “Vote-of-no-Confidence and Suspension” of the State Chairman, State Secretary, and State Organizing Secretary to the National Chairman of the party. The letter, dated August 2024, details the reasons behind the decision, highlighting that the suspended officials allegedly forged a petition regarding the conduct of the recent ward congresses without the consent of the entire State Working Committee. The letter emphasized that the congresses were successfully conducted across the 276 wards of the state.
