The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed the indefinite suspension of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim. This decision was announced during a press conference at Government House following the Benue State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
Governor Alia explained that the suspension was due to Barr. Mnyim’s unauthorized decision to involve the state in a legal challenge against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
“No appointee is permitted to act unilaterally. No matter how pressing or urgent the issue is, one must consult with me or seek my permission, especially on sensitive matters,” the governor emphasized.
He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to holding individuals accountable for financial misconduct, with the EFCC and ICPC playing a critical role in this effort.
“I gave no permission for him to represent the state in this case. Because he acted on his own, I hereby suspend him indefinitely pending a satisfactory explanation of his actions,” Governor Alia concluded.
