The Most Rev. Michael Ukpong, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, urged Catholic media practitioners to play a pivotal role in disseminating Church doctrines, particularly among the youth. He emphasized the importance of addressing the knowledge deficit prevalent among Catholic faithful, especially the younger generation.
During a courtesy visit by the Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN) at his office in the Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia, Ukpong expressed concern over societal challenges, attributing them to ignorance and lack of knowledge. He called on CAMPAN members to intensify their efforts to make a more significant impact within the Church.
Ukpong encouraged CAMPAN to leverage social media platforms to amplify the Church’s activities, acknowledging the global trend of digital communication. He advised the National President of CAMPAN, Mr. Chimdi Oluoha, to excel in his role and bring honor to their diocese, pledging the Church’s support for his success.
Mr. Hyacinth Okoli, the Abia Chairman of CAMPAN, along with his vice, Mr. Chikezie Onyeabor, invited the bishop to the upcoming 2024 World Communications Day celebration. They also introduced Oluoha as the new National President, elected at the association’s recent convention in Delta State.
In his response, Oluoha pledged to fulfill his duties diligently, aiming to elevate both the association and the Church to greater heights.
