A lone accident at Oye-Agu Market, Abagana, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has claimed the life of a young girl. The tragic incident was confirmed by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, who spoke to newsmen in Awka on Wednesday.
Alexander revealed that the probable cause of the crash was brake failure and loss of control. The accident involved a Toyota Sienna, driven by Eze Uchechukwu, with registration number NEN588YX, belonging to the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS).
“Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle’s brakes failed, causing it to ram into Oye-Agu market, crashing into traders,” she said.
A total of seven people were involved in the crash, including one male adult, three female adults, and three female children. Sadly, one of the female children lost her life, while the remaining victims, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The injured were rushed to Urban Hospital and Maternity for medical attention, and the deceased was taken to the morgue.
Expressing her condolences, Alexander urged motorists to maintain their vehicles and adhere to safety standards. She also advised market vendors to avoid setting up stalls along the roadside.
“Drive to save your life and the lives of others on the road,” she added.
