The protest against economic hardship at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja ended abruptly on Saturday after security agents opened fire on protesters and journalists.
Initially, security forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd. However, they later escalated the situation by shooting at individuals in the area, damaging a Premium Times reporter’s vehicle by breaking its rear glass and denting the bumper.
Security operatives had directed the protesters to confine their demonstration within the stadium—a directive that protesters had rejected since the nationwide marches began on August 1.
