The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday declared the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship primary election that produced Asue Ighodalo as its candidate iin Edo State invalid.
.Edo State governorship election is scheduled to hold on September 21, 2024.
In his judgment, Justice Inyang Ekwo said that the February 22, 2024 primary election held by PDP was invalid due to the unlawful exclusion of 378 delegates who were supposed to vote.
The judgment was in response to the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, filed by Hon Kelvin Mohammed on behalf of some aggrieved delegates of the party.
Justice Ekwo determined that both the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and PDP Guidelines were grossly violated in the conduct of the primary election held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
Other candidates in the coming election are: Senator Monday Okpebholo for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okpebholo is from the Edo Central zone.
The Labour Party (LP) candidate is a former national chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata.
