Veteran musician Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72.
The iconic artist reportedly collapsed after performing at a birthday celebration in Lagos.
According to reports, Onwenu was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she was pronounced dead.
“It’s a tragic loss. Onyeka Onwenu had just finished performing at Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday event today (Tuesday) when she suddenly collapsed,” an eyewitness told The pathwaynews.
Onyeka Onwenu was a celebrated singer, broadcaster, and actress, known for her debut album In The Morning Light, released in 1984.
In addition to her music career, she served as the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and was appointed the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development in 2013.
