On Saturday morning, a section of a two-storey residential building in Abuja collapsed, trapping several people in the rubble.
The incident occurred beside a well-known hotel on Sultan Dasuki Way in Kubwa. The building, formerly the Al-Hilal Hotel, was later converted into a hospital before becoming a residential apartment.
Despite the presence of emergency responders and security personnel, rescue efforts were delayed as cranes needed for the operation had not arrived by 8:45 AM, nearly two hours after the collapse.
So far, two individuals have been rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others managed to escape on their own. One of the escapees, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted waking up around 7 AM and hearing cracking sounds after stepping outside, prompting her to run out of the house.
