The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a church youth leader following the death of a married woman, which occurred under suspicious circumstances in a hotel room.
The suspect, identified as Tuamene Nwibiagbor, was arrested at his church after attempting to cover up the incident with a false testimony about escaping a kidnapping attempt. The woman, a married mother of three, reportedly died during a sexual encounter at De Reggy’s Hotel in Rivers State.
Investigations revealed that Tuamene and the woman, who had reconnected after many years, had arranged to meet at the hotel on May 14, 2024. They had initially met during their studies in 2010 and had recently rekindled their acquaintance during Tuamene’s wedding preparations.
On the agreed date, they checked into a room at the hotel in Rumuigbo, where the woman tragically passed away. Hotel staff alerted the police, leading to Tuamene’s eventual arrest.
Tuamene’s attempt to deflect suspicion by giving a dramatic testimony at his church, claiming a kidnapping attempt on the same day, raised red flags with the police. After his arrest, a search of his belongings yielded items worn on the day of the incident, prompting Tuamene to confess to being with the deceased when she died.
Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the swift action of the police in apprehending Tuamene and emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death.
