Pastor Jeremiah Abiona of the Christ Resurrection Church in Ilorin has advised graduates in the country to stop depending solely on their certificates after schooling. Speaking to Pathway News, Abiona emphasized the need for graduates to learn technical and vocational skills to secure their survival in an economy where white-collar jobs are increasingly scarce.
He noted that many graduates prefer roaming the streets in search of white-collar jobs instead of starting afresh with new skills. “Stop depending on your certificate alone. When the white-collar job is not coming, seek the alternative. Learn new skills and never be afraid to start afresh with your newly acquired skills. Stop wasting your time and years waiting, without having alternative means of survival,” he said.
The cleric also advised youths to avoid desperation and focus on their future. He urged government at all levels to prioritize youth empowerment to reduce crime and other negative tendencies in the country.
