A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has remanded a 60-year-old man, Ademola Azeez, in correctional centre, for allegedly buying rice with fake dollar.
The police prosecutor, ASP Akintunde Jacob, told the court that the defendant conspired with others, now at large, on 31st August, 2024 at Agunbelewo Area, Osogbo, to commit the alleged crime.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant used a Highlander Jeep to steal three bags of rice, 75 litres of vegetable oil and paid the sales girl with dollars suspected to be fake and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2002.
The prosecutor told the court that the alleged stolen items, property of one Olusola Yetunde, worth N405,000, and the offences ran contrary to sections 516 and 390(a) of the state criminal law, 2002.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three count charges of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause breach of peace abd stealing, pressed against him by the police.
Magistrate Oyindamola Daramola ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned to 4th October, for ruling on the bail of the defendant.
