An Area Court in Jos on Friday sentenced a mechanic, Hassan Faruk, to three months imprisonment for stealing three tricycle batteries worth N120,000.
Judge Shawomi Bokkos handed down the sentence after Faruk pleaded guilty to the offense and begged the court for leniency. The judge offered the convict an option of a N20,000 fine or three months imprisonment in default.
Police prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, informed the court that the case was reported at the Angwan Rogo police station on June 1 by Mr. Adamu Abdullahi. Gokwat stated that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s garage and stole three tricycle batteries.
During the police investigation, Faruk confessed to the crime. The offense contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria, according to the prosecutor.
