Comptroller James Ojo, the Area Controller of Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, is poised to tackle smuggling activities in Ogun State and has called for the support of traditional rulers and sister security agencies.
During a courtesy visit to the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo, Ojo emphasized the strategic importance of fostering sustainable collaboration and synergy. This collaboration aims to enhance economic growth and security along Nigeria’s borders with the Republic of Benin through intelligence sharing and joint anti-smuggling operations.
Ojo expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering support of traditional rulers, highlighting their pivotal role in maintaining peace and security within communities. He underscored the significance of leveraging traditional institutions’ influence and insights to effectively combat smuggling and enhance border security.
Acknowledging Ogun State’s strategic borders with the Republic of Benin, Ojo stressed the importance of unified efforts in combating smuggling and economic crimes. He expressed optimism that the Nigeria Customs Service, in partnership with traditional rulers and security agencies, will implement innovative strategies to safeguard national borders and promote economic growth.
During visits to sister security agencies in the state, including the Nigerian Police Force, 35 Artillery Brigade Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps, Defence Intelligence Agency, and Nigeria Correctional Service, Ojo emphasized the need for robust collaboration. He highlighted the importance of sharing intelligence and resources to create a strong front against cross-border crimes that threaten Nigeria’s economic stability and national security.
“These courtesy visits align with the Comptroller General of Customs’ policy thrust of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation,” Ojo stated. “Such engagements are crucial for fostering a secure and prosperous environment in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.”
