Dr. Hassan Ikrama, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, announced on Monday that the hospital has recruited 28 medical doctors to address staffing shortages.
Speaking to reporters in Lafia, Ikrama emphasized the necessity of these new hires to fill vacancies and enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver high-quality healthcare services. He highlighted challenges faced by Nigeria’s healthcare sector, particularly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which triggered a significant brain drain as healthcare professionals sought opportunities abroad.
“Due to the impact of COVID-19, many countries opened their doors to foreign healthcare workers, resulting in a departure of doctors from our country, including our hospital,” Ikrama explained.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for approving the replacement of departed medical personnel, underscoring the commitment to maintaining the hospital’s standards of healthcare delivery. Ikrama also revealed ongoing plans to recruit additional doctors to meet departmental needs within the hospital.
In conclusion, the CMD reassured the public of DASH’s steadfast dedication to providing exceptional healthcare services to the community.
