Dr. Hamza Al-Mustapha, President of the APUDI Institute for Peace Studies and Social Rehabilitation (APIS), has called for collaboration to rejuvenate institutions in Nigeria.
Speaking at the 2022/2023 End of Course Work Dinner Party and Awards Night of APIS in Abuja, Al-Mustapha highlighted the critical need for professional expertise to tackle the country’s challenges.
“This country is in dire need of professional hands to support it at this critical time, now that Nigeria is facing numerous challenges both domestically and internationally,” Al-Mustapha said. “At home, Nigeria is certainly faced with challenges from failed institutions across the country. There is a need to synergize, all hands together, to get institutions revived for our common good.”
He urged students not to relax but to complete their research work successfully, address new issues, and showcase their innate qualities. “My message is for them to be on their feet because they have just started. Until they are through with their research work and finish in flying colors, the institute will acknowledge them, for their families and indeed the country,” he added.
Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, Former Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, encouraged students to conduct critical research that generates knowledge, supports policy, and provides solutions to challenges in their fields. He emphasized the importance of originality in research and urged students to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
Mrs. Caroline Faturoti, a PhD student, spoke on behalf of the students, acknowledging the challenges they had faced and their readiness to contribute to society. “We are looking forward to our thesis because this is just the end of coursework. We still have that task ahead of us,” she said.
Samuel Azi, another student, expressed his commitment to ensuring their research adds value to society. “I come from a background of engineering, and looking at the diversity of knowledge, we believe we are going to do our best and add value to society.”
