Hon. Nicholas Asonsere, representing Ikpoba-Okha constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), announced yesterday that he abandoned his Legislative Quarters to live with the masses, aiming to share and understand their day-to-day pains.
Asonsere stated that he has lived in the local residence since his primary school days through university, emphasizing that this decision has allowed him to closely engage with the community, which is his primary constituency.
Speaking in Benin City while giving his account of stewardship to journalists to mark his one year in office, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education highlighted his commitment to localize legislative activities. He noted that he had previously served as the leader of the local government council legislative arm for three terms while also residing in the residence.
“I have resided with my people so that I can be part of them and know what they are going through to enable me to agitate, speak, and provide solutions to their needs and desires,” Asonsere said.
Reflecting on his first year in office, Asonsere mentioned fulfilling campaign promises, such as the installation of street lights and the establishment of a youth vocational training center. He proudly shared that he has sponsored three successful bills, one of which has led to a law supporting St. Columbus in Uromi.
Additionally, Asonsere highlighted his efforts to assist 103 individuals with enrollments for JAMB, Senior, and Junior School Certificate Examinations in his constituency. “Because I am an introvert, I don’t want to expose the challenges faced by certain parents, but we keep faith in God, and the beneficiaries are all doing well,” he concluded.
