Ayo Adegbite, a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Ado Constituency 1, plans to offer complimentary health services to residents of his constituency and surrounding areas.
Scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Oke Oniyo Health Centre in Ado-Ekiti, the one-day free medical outreach is organized in partnership with Patent Pathways International, a Non-Governmental Organization.
Speaking to reporters at the Assembly Complex in Ado-Ekiti, Adegbite, the initiator of the initiative, outlined that the program will include free eye examinations, medical screenings, and treatment for common ailments.
He mentioned that Development Support International (DSI) and a team of medical consultants from Lagos State will oversee the medical outreach, focusing primarily on addressing prevalent health issues. Services will encompass ophthalmological consultations with free distribution of eyeglasses, general medical consultations, and screenings for hypertension and diabetes.
Other services provided will include free medications, basic health education, and reproductive health counseling.
Adegbite emphasized that the free health mission reflects his commitment to giving back to his constituents, highlighting previous initiatives such as establishing ICT centers in schools and organizing the free health mission for over seven years.
Additionally, he intends to raise awareness about Federal Government healthcare initiatives, such as free malaria treatment at Primary Health Centers, and facilitate NIMC registration during the health mission. He stressed the importance of the National Identification Number (NIN) as a crucial identifier for accessing government services in Ekiti and Nigeria under the “Ulera Wa Scheme.”
The assembly member views the free health mission as a vital means to enhance healthcare accessibility, particularly for grassroots communities, and to support Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s efforts in delivering free and quality healthcare. The program aims to promote health, early disease detection, and provide treatment and rehabilitation, especially through comprehensive eye checks.
