The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested and paraded nine suspects involved in armed robbery, murder, and conspiracy in Ado-Ekiti, the state’s capital.
During the parade at the Command’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Adeniran, revealed that the last two months had been particularly challenging due to a new method employed by criminals. These individuals have been using motorcycles to rob and attack their targets, especially Point Of Sale (P.O.S) operators, often resulting in fatalities.
“Immediately after the first incident on June 20th, 2024, I issued a directive to the Command’s Intelligence and Tactical Units to track down the perpetrators of these heinous acts,” said Adeniran. He noted that some suspects were arrested, investigated, and paraded on June 26th, 2024, followed by the arrest and parade of three more suspects on July 2nd, 2024. These individuals have since been arraigned and remanded in the Correctional Center, Ado-Ekiti.

Thanks to the relentless efforts of the Intelligence and Tactical Units, more suspects on the watchlist have been apprehended, leading to today’s parade. Adeniran assured the public that the remaining suspects on the run would soon be caught.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, disclosed that six of the suspects were linked to the robbery of at least nine P.O.S operators between June and August in Ado-Ekiti. The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested the suspects in various hideouts, recovering a locally made single-barrel gun and one live cartridge.
Abutu also mentioned the arrest of three other suspects connected to the murder of a 56-year-old woman, Adeyemi Aina, in Ado-Ekiti. The suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, and items related to the murder were recovered during the investigation.
All arrested suspects will be charged to court, with efforts ongoing to apprehend those still at large.
