The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has criticized security agencies in the state for their inability to prevent the recent attack and destruction of public facilities during the protests against alleged bad governance. The Emir made these remarks on Wednesday while inspecting the vandalized equipment at the Kano Printing Press and the ICT Park.
Emir Sanusi expressed regret that, despite being notified in writing about the potential threat to the Printing Press, security forces failed to prevent the eventual attack. “It is surprising that four days before the attacks, security agencies were alerted, yet nothing was done to prevent the incident. This calls for a thorough investigation into what transpired,” he said regarding the destruction at the Printing Press.
The Emir also hinted at the possibility of deliberate sabotage, stating, “It is clear that some individuals are determined to destroy Kano. God knows who they are, and sooner or later, they will be exposed and ultimately fail.”
Addressing the youth involvement in the unrest, the Emir remarked, “It is also evident that the youths who participated in these nefarious actions were recruited by enemies of the state to act against the interests of the people. We pray that God guides them to the right path.”
While speaking at the NCC Industrial Digital Park, Emir Sanusi urged the youth of Kano to discern between those who genuinely care for them and those who do not. The park, designed to train approximately three million youths for ICT jobs, was heavily damaged during the protests.
The Emir also pointed out the hypocrisy of those who incited the violence, noting, “All those who gave you money to act negatively against the state have their children studying abroad. The park was supposed to be commissioned today, but it was destroyed.”
Expressing his dismay over the destruction at the NCC park, Emir Sanusi assured the public that the Federal Government would soon rebuild the facility. He urged the youth of Kano to resist any negative influences targeted at them.
The State Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mohammed Tajo Othman, also spoke at the event, revealing that the Minister of Science and Technology had promised to rebuild the park soon.
