Following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, the Kaduna State Police Command has nabbed the tailor producing controversial Russian and Chinese flags and 38 other suspects in Kaduna.
According to a release by the Command’s Spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, the suspects were arrested on the eve of day five of destructive #EndBadGovernance protests and are now cooling their feet in the Police net.
He explained that the suspects were seen displaying Russian and Chinese flags, mobilised, and engaged in the vandalisation of private and public property under the guise of protest.
Some of the properties vandalised by the hoodlums include a Hilux vehicle belonging to KADVS, a Toyota Yaris owned by a journalist, and the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) office in Zone 6, Zaria, which was set ablaze.
“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, intervened to restore order. During the confrontation, the suspects became hostile and resorted to using stones, catapults, and other weapons. The police managed to calm the situation with the minimal use of tear gas.
“In total, 39 suspects were arrested at the scene, including a tailor who was sowing the foreign flags for the group.
“The police recovered 38 Russian flags and one Chinese flag, two catapults with a bag of stones, and various vandalised items”, Mansir said.
However, the Command silent on how the suspected tailor came about the idea behind sowing foreign flags and flagging same in sovereign Nigeria.
Earlier, the Command debunked the rumour of a hijacked Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) by protesters in Tudun Wada town in the state on Monday saying, the driver of the APC, confronted by a large crowd of
protesters chose to be professional by not opening fire on the unarmed protesters and allowed them to make a display with the armoured vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Audu Ali Dabigi, while commending his officers, issued a stern warning to all residents to adhere to the imposed curfew just as he assured that violators would face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The CP also appealed to all citizens to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies during this critical period noting that the curfew was in place to protect lives and property and ensure the swift restoration of peace in the State.
