Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has highlighted agriculture as a crucial tool for poverty eradication, aiming to achieve zero hunger and eliminate poverty within the next eight years. In an interview with Daily Sun at his office, Governor Mbah emphasized his administration’s commitment to developing the agricultural sector.
“We see agriculture as pivotal for our growth plan. It’s a sector where neglect is not an option if we are to exponentially grow our economy,” Governor Mbah stated. He outlined initiatives to attract commercial farmers, establish agro-processing zones, and empower smallholder farmers through cluster development and capacity-building programs.
Governor Mbah underscored the importance of equipping young people with mechanized farming skills to enhance productivity. “We are actively transitioning them from manual farming to mechanized methods, providing both training and necessary machinery to boost their production capacity,” he explained.
He further disclosed that Enugu State has established a land bank of approximately 300,000 hectares to attract commercial farmers, marking a significant step forward in agricultural development efforts.
Governor Mbah’s administration is poised to transform Enugu State’s agricultural landscape, viewing it as instrumental in achieving their socioeconomic goals.
