Dr. Nasir Danladi-Bako, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has praised the inclusive leadership of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) Sokoto, Prof. Lawal Bilbis.
Danladi-Bako, now a lecturer in the Mass Communications Department at UDUS, commended Bilbis in a statement issued to Pathwaynews in Kaduna on Tuesday.
According to Danladi-Bako, who is also a former Information Commissioner in Sokoto State, Bilbis has significantly contributed to the academic and infrastructural development of the university.
The statement, titled “Fare thee well, Prof. Lawal Bilbis,” highlighted Bilbis’s efforts in addressing infrastructural needs, academic advancements, faculty expansion, and administrative improvements.
“He has diligently ensured the general upliftment of the well-being of the staff and students of the premier, most peaceful university in Nigeria,” Danladi-Bako said.
Danladi-Bako shared personal anecdotes of Bilbis’s hands-on approach, recalling instances when Bilbis would visit his Mass Communications classroom to observe and interact without any formalities, leaving students in awe of his accessibility.
Bilbis’s legacy includes the accreditation of the Mass Communications course and the establishment of the ‘University Campus Radio’ at 89.7 FM, which began transmission on April 13, 2024, benefiting the entire university community.
Danladi-Bako also praised the construction of new buildings, pavements, sidewalks, and improved horticulture during Bilbis’s tenure.
