In response to the recent demands by citizens on the government, the Uyi and Rachel Lawani Foundation, a nonprofit organization, has praised the active engagement of youth with government authorities.
This commendation was made in a statement signed by Uyi Lawani, Co-Convener of the Uyi and Rachel Lawani Foundation, as he announced the 2nd Annual Lecture of the Lawani Series on Decolonization. The lecture, titled “Decolonizing Political Thought and Action: Panacea for Nigeria’s Failure to Build Viable Political Movements,” will take place on August 22, 2024, at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan. The guest lecturer for the event is Dr. Malcolm Fabiyi.
The statement reads in part, “The Uyi and Rachel Lawani Foundation takes careful note of the ongoing conversations concerning protests, governance, and our fledgling democracy in Nigeria. The robustness of the dialogue and the sense of awareness demonstrated by our teeming youth in their engagement with constituted authorities are, to say the least, encouraging.”
