The Dr Yusuf John-Suberu Foundation has called on youths in Edo and Ondo states to reject violence and embrace peace during the forthcoming gubernatorial elections. Dr Yusuf Suberu, the founder of the organization, delivered this message during an interview with Pathway News on Saturday in Abuja.
Suberu emphasized that violence would only result in the destruction of lives and property, ultimately undermining the democratic process. He stressed the importance of conducting elections in a free, fair, and transparent manner, where every vote counts, and the will of the electorate is respected.
He appealed to youths to resist being used by politicians as tools for violence and instead work towards ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
Pathway News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Edo and Ondo off-cycle governorship elections for September 21 and November 16, respectively.
Suberu highlighted that these elections offer the people an opportunity to exercise their franchise and choose their leaders, urging youths to make their votes count.

“Nigeria’s electoral processes are often marred by violence, leading to physical and emotional trauma for many young individuals. In severe instances, these clashes can be fatal, resulting in the loss of lives and long-lasting scars for those affected. The future of our dear states and indeed Nigeria lies in our hands. Let us eschew violence and work towards a peaceful and prosperous future,” he said.
He also called on security agencies to remain neutral and ensure the elections are conducted peacefully and transparently. Suberu assured that the foundation would partner with other organizations to sensitize youths on the importance of peaceful elections.
He further urged politicians to embrace peaceful campaigns, warning that any attempt to disrupt the elections would be counterproductive. The foundation plans to organize peace rallies and campaigns in Edo and Ondo states to educate youths on the need for peaceful elections.
