The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its exceptional intelligence-gathering capabilities, emphasizing the Corps’ critical role in Nigeria’s security architecture.
During his visit to the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, Tunji-Ojo urged the Corps’ officers and personnel to maintain their high standards in road safety management and continue demonstrating professionalism in their duties. He highlighted the importance of the intelligence gathered from the FRSC’s enhanced visibility in boosting national security.
“I believe FRSC has a role to play even within the internal security architecture of Nigeria,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
The Minister also acknowledged the FRSC’s dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property on the highways, noting that the Corps had consistently upheld its mandate.
“We appreciate the support and recognition of your efforts and look forward to continuing our collaboration,” he added.
In response, FRSC Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed expressed gratitude to the Minister for recognizing the FRSC’s contribution to internal security. He noted that the Minister’s remarks underscored the strategic importance of the FRSC within the nation’s security framework.
Mohammed emphasized that the FRSC, as a lead agency in road safety management, had expanded its scope to include intelligence gathering, surveillance, and traffic law enforcement. These efforts, he said, have significantly reduced road crashes and bolstered national security.
“The FRSC’s presence on highways acts as a visible deterrent to criminal activities, and our intelligence-gathering capabilities support the operations of other security agencies,” Mohammed explained.
He further highlighted the FRSC’s collaboration with other security agencies, which has facilitated the sharing of intelligence and best practices, leading to a more coordinated approach to national security.
Commending the Minister’s achievements, Mohammed pointed out the streamlined process for obtaining an international passport within two weeks as one of the notable successes under Tunji-Ojo’s leadership.
The Corps Marshal reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to adapting to emerging security challenges and ensuring road safety. He assured that the FRSC would continue to work tirelessly to contribute to both road safety and national security.
