The Gombe State government will implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000 for its workers, as announced by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau. Speaking on Sunday in Gombe, Jatau, who also chairs the state’s Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage Negotiation, stated that the committee is finalizing the details for implementation.
Represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, Jatau emphasized Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s strong commitment to ensuring that civil servants in the state benefit from the new national minimum wage. “Governor Yahaya is fully determined to pay the minimum wage. He is one governor who believes that the new minimum wage is essential,” Jatau said.
In the meantime, civil servants will continue to receive the N10,000 wage award that has been in effect since September 2023, until the new minimum wage is implemented. “Once we reach an agreement on the new minimum wage, the implementation will begin, and the N10,000 palliative will stop,” he added.
Mr. Yusuf Aish, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State, confirmed that all parties are awaiting the Federal Government’s approved pay structure before full negotiations commence. He urged civil servants to remain patient until the negotiations are concluded.
