Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has approved over N340 million to restore electricity supply to Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYUK), Katsina. The approval was announced in a statement released on Saturday by Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, Director of Press in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The funds will be used for two key electricity projects at the university. The first is the replacement of a 33KVA indoor control panel and other accessories to restore power at a cost of over N260 million. The second project, worth over N98 million, will involve the installation of solar-powered security lights.
According to Aliyu-Yar’adua, this initiative aims to address ongoing issues of vandalism and insecurity at the university. Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, the SSG, noted that the approval was a prompt response by the governor to ensure a conducive learning environment and restore normal activities at the institution.
The governor expressed concern over the recent power outage affecting the university and commended the efforts of the university’s management, staff, and students during the outage. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving education standards in the state.
Pathway News recalls that the university had extended its mid-semester break due to power supply issues. The institution’s senate has postponed resumption until electricity is fully restored, according to a statement by Muhammad Yusufu-Abubakar, Registrar and Secretary to the university’s senate.
